Happy International Women’s Day 2018 Nail Art!

Happy Women’s Day!!

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

International Women’s Day (IWD) has been observed since the early 1900’s – a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies. International Women’s Day is a collective day of global celebration and a call for gender parity. No one government, NGO, charity, corporation, academic institution, women’s network or media hub is solely responsible for International Women’s Day. Many organizations declare an annual IWD theme that supports their specific agenda or cause, and some of these are adopted more widely with relevance than others.

“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights,” says world-renowned feminist, journalist and social and political activist Gloria Steinem. Thus International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action – whatever that looks like globally at a local level. But one thing is for sure, International Women’s Day has been occurring for well over a century – and continue’s to grow from strength to strength.

Learn about the values that guide IWD’s ethos.

What colours signify international Women’s Day?

Internationally, purple is a colour for symbolising women. Historically the combination of purple, green and white to symbolise women’s equality originated from the Women’s Social and Political Union in the UK in 1908. Purple signifies justice and dignity. Green symbolises hope. White represents purity, but is no longer used due to ‘purity’ being a controversial concept. The introduction of the colour yellow representing a ‘new dawn’ is commonly used to signify a second wave of feminism. Thus purple with green represents traditional feminism, purple with yellow represents progressive contemporary feminism.

International Women’s Day timeline journey

1908
Great unrest and critical debate was occurring amongst women. Women’s oppression and inequality was spurring women to become more vocal and active in campaigning for change. Then in 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights.

1909
In accordance with a declaration by the Socialist Party of America, the first National Woman’s Day (NWD) was observed across the United States on 28 February. Women continued to celebrate NWD on the last Sunday of February until 1913.

1910
In 1910 a second International Conference of Working Women was held in Copenhagen. A woman named Clara Zetkin (Leader of the ‘Women’s Office’ for the Social Democratic Party in Germany) tabled the idea of an International Women’s Day. She proposed that every year in every country there should be a celebration on the same day – a Women’s Day – to press for their demands. The conference of over 100 women from 17 countries, representing unions, socialist parties, working women’s clubs – and including the first three women elected to the Finnish parliament – greeted Zetkin’s suggestion with unanimous approval and thus International Women’s Day was the result.

1911
Following the decision agreed at Copenhagen in 1911, International Women’s Day was honoured the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on 19 March. More than one million women and men attended IWD rallies campaigning for women’s rights to work, vote, be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination. However less than a week later on 25 March, the tragic ‘Triangle Fire’ in New York City took the lives of more than 140 working women, most of them Italian and Jewish immigrants. This disastrous event drew significant attention to working conditions and labour legislation in the United States that became a focus of subsequent International Women’s Day events. 1911 also saw women’s Bread and Roses‘ campaign.

1913-1914
On the eve of World War I campaigning for peace, Russian women observed their first International Women’s Day on the last Sunday in February 1913. In 1913 following discussions, International Women’s Day was transferred to 8 March and this day has remained the global date for International Women’s Day ever since. In 1914 further women across Europe held rallies to campaign against the war and to express women’s solidarity. For example, in London in the United Kingdom there was a march from Bow to Trafalgar Square in support of women’s suffrage on 8 March 1914. Sylvia Pankhurst was arrested in front of Charing Cross station on her way to speak in Trafalgar Square.

1917
On the last Sunday of February, Russian women began a strike for “bread and peace” in response to the death of over 2 million Russian soldiers in World War 1. Opposed by political leaders, the women continued to strike until four days later the Czar was forced to abdicate and the provisional Government granted women the right to vote. The date the women’s strike commenced was Sunday 23 February on the Julian calendar then in use in Russia. This day on the Gregorian calendar in use elsewhere was 8 March.

1975
International Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time by the United Nations in 1975. Then in December 1977, the General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming a United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace to be observed on any day of the year by Member States, in accordance with their historical and national traditions.

1996
The UN commenced the adoption of an annual theme in 1996 – which was “Celebrating the past, Planning for the Future”. This theme was followed in 1997 with “Women at the Peace table”, and in 1998 with “Women and Human Rights”, and in 1999 with “World Free of Violence Against Women”, and so on each year until the current. More recent themes have included, for example, “Empower Rural Women, End Poverty & Hunger” and “A Promise is a Promise – Time for Action to End Violence Against Women”.

2000
By the new millennium, International Women’s Day activity around the world had stalled in many countries. The world had moved on and feminism wasn’t a popular topic. International Women’s Day needed re-ignition. There was urgent work to do – battles had not been won and gender parity had still not been achieved.

2001
The global internationalwomensday.com digital hub for everything IWD was launched to re-energize the day as an important platform to celebrate the successful achievements of women and to continue calls for accelerating gender parity. Each year the IWD website sees vast traffic and is used by millions of people and organizations all over the world to learn about and share IWD activity. The IWD website is made possible each year through support from corporations committed to driving gender parity. The website’s charity of choice for many years has been the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) whereby IWD fundraising is channelled. A more recent additional charity partnership is with global working women’s organization Catalyst Inc. The IWD website adopts an annual campaign theme that is globally relevant for groups and organizations. This campaign theme, one of many around the world, provides a framework and direction for annual IWD activity and takes into account the wider agenda of both celebration as well as a broad call to action for gender parity. Recent campaign themes have included “Be Bold for Change”, “Pledge for Parity”, “Make it happen”, “The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum” and “Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures”. Campaign themes for the global IWD website are collaboratively and consultatively identified each year and widely adopted.

2011
2011 saw the 100 year centenary of International Women’s Day – with the first IWD event held exactly 100 years ago in 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. In the United States, President Barack Obama proclaimed March 2011 to be “Women’s History Month”, calling Americans to mark IWD by reflecting on “the extraordinary accomplishments of women” in shaping the country’s history. The then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton launched the “100 Women Initiative: Empowering Women and Girls through International Exchanges”. In the United Kingdom, celebrity activist Annie Lennox lead a superb march across one of London’s iconic bridges raising awareness in support for global charity Women for Women International. Further charities such as Oxfam have run extensive activity supporting IWD and many celebrities and business leaders also actively support the day

2018 and beyond
The world has witnessed a significant change and attitudinal shift in both women’s and society’s thoughts about women’s equality and emancipation. Many from a younger generation may feel that ‘all the battles have been won for women’ while many feminists from the 1970’s know only too well the longevity and ingrained complexity of patriarchy. With more women in the boardroom, greater equality in legislative rights, and an increased critical mass of women’s visibility as impressive role models in every aspect of life, one could think that women have gained true equality. The unfortunate fact is that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, women still are not present in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women’s education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men. However, great improvements have been made. We do have female astronauts and prime ministers, school girls are welcomed into university, women can work and have a family, women have real choices. And so each year the world inspires women and celebrates their achievements. IWD is an official holiday in many countries including Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, China (for women only), Cuba, Georgia, Guinea-Bissau, Eritrea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Madagascar (for women only), Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Nepal (for women only), Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zambia. The tradition sees men honouring their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues, etc with flowers and small gifts. In some countries IWD has the equivalent status of Mother’s Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers.

A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women’s craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more. Many global corporations actively support IWD by running their own events and campaigns. For example, on 8 March search engine and media giant Google often changes its Google Doodle on its global search pages to honor IWD. Year on year IWD is certainly increasing in status.

So make a difference, think globally and act locally!
Make everyday International Women’s Day.
Do your bit to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.

Valentine’s Week 2018 – Twirl Hug Nail Art!

Hugs are always delightful and a great symbol of love and affection ever since romance came into existence. But as romance evolved, so did hugs.

These days, you can’t say that all hugs are the same. There are different types of hugs in modern society, ranging from casual to hot. They mean different things when they come from guys, and girls may have trouble interpreting this body language. It can be super confusing if you have no idea how to differentiate them.

Hugs should be read in tandem with the overall body language of guys. Otherwise, you may take them to mean affection when they signify disinterest and awkwardness.

It is important to know the different types of hugs guys give to girls and what they really mean so that you don’t mistake one for another. Listed and explained below are ten types of hugs guys like to give girls.

1. The Cold Shoulder Hug From Guys

Many of us have experienced this type of hug. It’s like an awkward polite hug. This hug is the kind where guys are trying to hug you without making any real contact and is usually accompanied with a polite smile.

The meaning of this hug is either guys are feeling very awkward with you or they are undecided about you. It mostly happens when you have first met or on a first or last date.

This hug usually means guys aren’t sure if they want to hug you in the first place. Guys hug girls like this when they absolutely can’t avoid it. Sometimes, the hug is more like a London Bridge hug: given from a distance, without touching any other part of the body.

These types of hugs are usually what guys give to a weird cousin or an uncle they doesn’t really like. So, if a guy is giving a girl this hug, she must know where she stands with him. Well, in this case, I personally wouldn’t want to get a second hug from that guy anytime soon.

2. A Quick Squeeze Type of Hug

This is the most misunderstood hug from guys. It usually feels like they’re getting straight to the point and guys want to get the hug over with as quick as possible.

This couldn’t be further from the truth! Nine times out of ten, guys give a girl the quick hug because they’re in a hurry but want to let them know that they care. This quick hug when accompanied with a squeeze and a quick kiss. Even when they’re in a hurry, guys can’t wait to give you that quick taste of love.

The quick squeeze could also mean that guys are occupied but they just want to feel your presence. It means no matter how busy they are, you are always on their minds.

3. The Catcher Type of Hug From Guys

This is one of the most adorable types of hugs. When you go for a hug with the guy, he holds you around the waist and whisks you off your feet. Often these types of hugs are accompanied by little kisses. In the hug, he also lets you wrap your legs tightly around his waist as he holds you tight against him. The meaning of this kiss is clear that the guy has really missed you and he is very excited to be with you again.

It doesn’t matter how long he has been away, this hug says he can’t wait to put his hands on you. This is the kind of hug we often see in the movies. These are rare and hence are really cute when they happen. So, if a guy hugs a girl like this, he is really into her.

It’s all in his body language. This hug reminds us of the saying from the fairy tales: sweeping you off your feet. He’s definitely your Prince Charming if he does this.

4. The Twirl Type of Hug

Twirling hugs or spinners are the most awesome hugs. They are free-spirited and whimsical and will surely put a smile on the girl’s face.

The girl runs into the guy’s arms for the hug. He picks her up, kisses her and spins her around before putting her back on the ground. This hug carries the special meaning that the guy is feeling comfortable, very happy, and playful with you. He loves to make you giggle and happy.

Could a hug get any better? Definitely! If he is wearing a delicious cologne and you can inhale it deeply, it will be the best.

But, this hug could also be given to a girl whom a guy considers his very best friend. So, if you’re not in a relationship with the guy and he hugs you like that, either he is extremely comfortable with you to hug you like this, or he likes you as more than a friend.

To be sure of his intentions, you need to look at these types of clingy hugs in context with all your other interactions with the guy. That’s one should also read guys’ body language before putting meaning into their hugs.

5. The Tight Squeeze Hug From Guys

This is another hug that guys usually give girls. He hugs and squeezes the girl tight, and sometimes kisses her softly.

So, if he holds you tight you can easily pick up his secret meaning: he doesn’t want to let you go. He is extremely enchanted by your presence and in love with you. These sweet types of hugs show that he cares for you a lot, maybe more than you will ever know. It also means that he has missed you a lot and that he loves being around you. The tight squeeze is to let you know how much he is into you.

A tight hug from a guy can also mean after a long tiring day, he just wants to feel your warmth. Or, in amidst troubles, he is seeking silent assurance and encouragement from you. A squeeze speaks volumes.

Just feel it in your heart, read his body language, and you will know what your guy is trying to tell you. Appreciate this hug from the guy. It shows his trust and his dependency on you.

6. The Sneaky Hug From Guys

These are the most thrilling types of hugs where guys sneak up from behind a girl and give her a surprise hug by snaking their arms around her waist and kissing her neck.

These hugs leave you feeling really loved. These hugs are really important coming from guys you like, or anyone for that matter. The body language in a sneaky hug tells you that the guy is feeling especially affectionate towards you.

These hugs come when guys have been missing you a lot and are extremely excited to see you. The back hug is very intimate and leaves you feeling both thrilled and loved. These types of hugs are especially amazing when given while the girl is cooking, cleaning, busy doing something or simply lost in her thoughts. It leaves the girl feeling wanted and secure.

Through this hug, guys want to tell a girl that they love her deeply. Wrapping her body with his arms, he wants her to feel the connection between them.

It can also be said about this hug that by covering her back guys want to shelter the girl. They also display his masculinity, strength, and dominance by flexing their muscles. But frequent hugs from behind could also mean that guys are longing for a deeper connection but think you are unavailable.

7. Hug With A Gentle Rub

These types of hugs involve guys gently rubbing the girl’s back while hugging. This means that they’re really protective of you.

The gentle rub indicates his affection for you and signifies his deep care. We all know that a little touch on the back can startle and excite at the same time. Also, the back is a very exposed part of our body and very vulnerable. So, when guys softly rub a girl’s back, it means they want to protect the girl.

Sometimes, you might feel the hug turning into a tight embrace and the gentle rub into heavy petting with a sexual rhythm. This gesture can mean that he’s turned on. You might also need to study his mood along the hug. If he is upset when he is rubbing your back with the hug, it means he is looking for comfort. It could mean he wants to be assured that no matter what, you are there for him.

Also, this could be the reverse. If the girl is upset, guys might give this kind of hug to reassure the girl that they’ll be by her side always.

8. Hug Around The Waist

A hug around the waist is intimate and sensual.

In these types of hugs, guys like to snake their arms around the waist of the girl and the girl’s arms usually go over their arms. By allowing the girl’s arm to go above theirs, guys are being very vulnerable and open since this kind of arm position shows a girl’s dominance.

These types of hugs suggest that guys happy to see you and trust you deeply. This is a way to genuinely show a girl that the guy cares for her. It also means he is in a position to talk and be open to her.

This hug can be extremely sensual if a guy’s arms are hugging the girl’s lower back and he pulls her tightly towards him. This shows that the guy is crazy about you and wants you. Touching his pelvis to the girl’s shows that he is extremely attracted to you sexually. If his hands move farther down, it means he is even more aroused sexually. So, take your time with this type of hug and enjoy the feeling of being wanted.

9. The Hug With The Pat From Guys

These types of hugs aren’t what you would want from a guy.

In the hug, he embraces you gently and pats your upper back lightly. This is an indication that he is not into you. This is generally their hug for buddies.

If guys are giving you this hug it means they’re far from being romantic and takes his relationship with you very lightly. This hug indicates that your relationship with him is not going anywhere.

For example, you are on a date with the guy and he gives you this hug in a public place by the end of the date. It means he is hinting that you two should just be friends. It is also a hint to you that he is no longer interested in you or he might even be mad at you.

But then, this hug might happen once in a while instead of regularly. In that case, you can be assured that your guy still loves you. There are several reasons why he is giving you this half-hearted hug.

It might be encouragement to you before you are about to do something big. If this kind of hug is often delivered in public while he hugs you tightly in private, it means he is not comfortable with public displays of affection. Sometimes he might give you this hug while he is preoccupied with something. It could be anything: a phone call, the TV, or his work.

So before reaching a decision read into the circumstances of his hug. If you are not sure, wait and study the patterns of his hugs. You will eventually know sure where your relationship stands.

10. Hug With Heads Touching

This is a hug where his head touches yours in one way or other.

If he touches your forehead with his, it means that he is trying to merge his thoughts with yours.

If your relationship is new, this hug is an indication that he wants you to know him better and that he wants to know more about you as well.

And if it has been a while since you’ve gotten together, this hug means that the guy is ready to get more intimately attached to you emotionally and mentally. This is a hug where you can feel your connection getting stronger with each passing second, along with the love.

If he is taller than you, you will often feel a peculiar sensation, where your head will be perfectly snuggled in his arms and his chin will be touching the top of your head. It is an incredibly comfortable and cozy hug. It shows how close you two are and how deep your feelings run for each other.

This is a hug that often gives an impression that you are very comfortable around each other and that you fit into each other’s lives and arms like perfect puzzle pieces. The most wonderful feeling is when you rest your head on his chest and feel his heartbeat. It is incredible how this hug makes a moment all the more romantic. You feel relaxed and without a worry in the world.
